Jobtober Day 18 - A Good Reputation Requires Social Proof
Businesses have reviews. You need endorsements.
Just like a business needs testimonials and reviews to build trust, you need endorsements from people who’ve worked with you.
For businesses, that’s what websites, Google Maps, or Trustpilot are for.
For employees and freelancers, that’s what LinkedIn (as well your portfolio) is for — social proof.
It’s how recruiters, future employers, or collaborators verify that you really are as capable, reliable, and trustworthy as you claim.
💡 How to Get Endorsements the Smart Way
The best way to receive endorsements is simple:
Give them first.
Make it as easy as possible for others to return the favor.
Everyone knows endorsements are important — and everyone hates writing them.
Why? Because people want to write something meaningful, not generic. And that takes time and effort — two things most of us are short on.
Here’s my trick for removing all friction and actually getting endorsements:
When I finish a project, I ask my client (or manager or coworker):
“Would you mind writing me a short endorsement that highlights [e.g. my reliability, responsiveness, and service mindset - the things I want to be known for]?”
Then I add:
“To save you time, I drafted three options with ChatGPT — feel free to copy, tweak, or ignore them.”
🧰 My Three-Option Template
Option A: A quick one-liner.
Option B: A mid-length endorsement with one or two sentences of detail.
Option C: A detailed endorsement including a concrete example of how I demonstrated those skills.
I also tell them exactly where on LinkedIn to submit it — no friction, no excuses.
And what usually happens?
They end up writing their own version — because my examples spark memories of moments they appreciated, and they want to put it in their own words.
By making their life easier, I increase my chances of actually getting that endorsement.
Since we’re on the home stretch for Jobtober, let’s use a very concrete example:
If Jobtober has helped you become more findable, confident, or connected in the Bitcoin space, would you mind sharing a short testimonial about your experience?
Here are three ready-to-use examples you can tweak, copy, or remix to make your own 👇
Option A
“Jobtober helped me finally get visible in the Bitcoin space — I connected with amazing people and learned how to show my proof of work with confidence.”
Option B
“Before Jobtober, I wasn’t sure how to present myself as a Bitcoiner on LinkedIn. The daily tasks gave me structure and confidence — from optimizing my headline to building my portfolio. I now feel visible and ready for my first Bitcoin role.”
Option C
“I joined Jobtober to understand how to become more visible in the Bitcoin job market. Over 21 days, I learned how to clarify my reputation, grow my network, and show my proof of work with confidence. The daily prompts were simple but powerful, and the POW Lab community made it easier to stay consistent. I’ve already seen results — more connections, more engagement, and even a few job leads.”
You could submit this on my LinkedIn profile and scroll all the way down until you see a blue button that says, “Recommend Anja”, or you could leave a comment under this original Jobtober post.
🧭 Your Task for Today
👉 Open your favorite AI and tell it what you did during your last project or job. Also tell it three things you want to be known for. Then ask it to generate three versions of a testimonial — one short, one mid-length, one detailed.
👉 Then contact your most recent employer, manager, or coworker and ask for a LinkedIn endorsement — offering them those three options to choose from.
Start with the lowest-hanging fruit — someone who you’re closest with and who is likely to say yes.
💡 Bonus Tip:
You don’t need to limit this to formal jobs. You can ask anyone who’s experienced working with you. I’ve received endorsements for giving workshops and simply for being a valuable member of online communities.
If you’re a Bitcoiner, chances are you’ve already contributed to Bitcoin in some way that others have appreciated — maybe you:
Collaborated with someone at a hackathon
Helped someone restore their Bitcoin wallet
Organized a local meetup
Endorsements can come from anywhere — they’re proof of trust and collaboration.
And of course, make sure to give endorsements too. An unexpected endorsement is one of the best gifts you can give someone. Surprise someone today!
🧡 Build proof of reputation — not just proof of work.
