Actively connect with them today and ask to join their network.
BUT: When you send a connection request, always add a note.
Say something genuine and specific. For example:
“I love what you’re building! I’ve been a user since Day 1. I’d love to connect.”
“I really enjoyed your book - especially the part about [...]. I’d love to connect here.”
“I’m excited to see you’re speaking at [conference name]. Looking forward to your keynote!”
That’s it. Most people will accept your connection request. After all, who doesn’t like a sincere compliment?

If they’re active on LinkedIn, start by following them and engaging with their content first for a few days. Leave thoughtful comments. Then, when you send a connection request, they’ll already recognize your name, and your chances of being accepted will skyrocket.
