I know. You don’t like LinkedIn.

It’s full of corporate jargon, people announcing career milestones that they’re “thrilled to share,” and inspirational posts that sound like they were all written by the same AI.

I get it.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to be on LinkedIn every day to use it strategically.

If you’re looking for work - whether it’s in Bitcoin or anywhere - it’s highly beneficial having at least a presence there.

Because - when you send a proposal or a job application - what’s the first thing the recipient will do?

Google you. (Or Grok you…) And one of the first results they’ll find is your LinkedIn profile.

Even if you connected with someone in a Telegram group or met at a conference - people will check LinkedIn for reference and context. Especially with all the recent scams on Telegram, they might double check you are who you say you are on LinkedIn, where your real name is attached to your proof of work.

That’s why LinkedIn is one of the best places to be findable.

So when people come across your profile, it should make three things immediately clear:

What do you do? What are you good at? What are you looking for?

And then it should back those claims up.

• Your work history tells people where you’ve been.

• Your headline tells them what you want to be known for.

• Your About section gives context.

• Your posts and comments show how you think.

• Your Featured section can point people to your actual proof of work.

Together, they create a picture of you that is much more useful than a CV alone.

So even if you don’t want to spend a lot of time on LinkedIn, at the very least, make sure your profile makes it obvious why someone should talk to you.

That’s one of the things we’ll be working on during Jobtober. We’ll give you practical challenges to improve your online presence, your reputation and your proof of work so that the right people have a much easier time figuring out who you are and what you can do.

You don’t need to become a LinkedIn influencer. You just need to make sure that when someone is looking for someone like you, they find your profile and become curious.

I learned this lesson in a way I’ll never forget.

A few years ago, I left a job that I genuinely loved. The work was interesting, the company was great, but I was reporting to a very inexperienced manager who made my life increasingly miserable. After months of deliberating, I finally decided to walk away because I couldn't take it anymore.

The next day, I met a business friend for coffee and shared that I had finally left and was looking for my next project.

She smiled and said, “Great. Then I can finally hire you.”

I was completely taken aback. “Why didn’t you tell me before?”

Her answer made sense: she knew some of the senior people at my company and didn’t think it would be ethical to try to poach me. So she just kept an eye on me until the time was right.

She had seen my proof of work. She had seen my LinkedIn posts. We’d met at industry events. Mutual friends had mentioned my name over the months and years. She knew what I was good at, and now she also knew that I was looking for a new project and what kind of project I wanted. The timing was finally right.

One door closed, another one opened.

Was this luck? Maybe partly. But you create your own luck by creating the conditions for opportunity to exist. This means you nurture your relationships and show your proof of work long before you need something.

To me, that’s what Findability is all about: it’s making sure that the people who already know you understand what you do, what you’re passionate about, and where you want to go next. So when an opportunity appears, your name naturally comes to mind.

Your network can’t support you if they don’t know who you are and what you’re looking for.

That’s why one of the lessons we teach in Jobtober is simple:

Don’t build your network only when you need it. Build it today.

Help people without expecting anything in return. Share what you’re learning. Show your work. Stay curious. Stay visible. Tell people what excites you.

You never know which conversation, recommendation, or introduction will change the direction of your career.

By the time you need your network, your relationships should already be strong.

Invest in your relationships. Plant the seeds today that tomorrow’s opportunities can grow from.

When people decide they want to change careers, most of them do the same thing:

They open a job board. They look at what’s available. They find something that seems interesting. They apply.

And if they get the job, they figure out what kind of life that job allows them to live.

We call this the Reactive Way, and it’s completely backwards.

Because your career is supposed to support your life. Not the other way around.

So, what if you started at the end?

What if, instead of asking “What job can I get?”

You asked “What kind of life do I actually want?”

• What do I value?

• What kind of work gives me energy?

• How do I want to spend my time?

• How much freedom and autonomy do I want?

• What kind of contribution do I want to make in the world?

• What does success actually mean to me?

And just as importantly:

• What are my deal breakers?

• What am I not willing to tolerate?

These are very different questions from “Which job should I apply for?”

And they are much more likely to lead you to your destination.

The Creative Way

This is what we call the Creative Way of designing your career.

Instead of looking at what’s available and trying to squeeze yourself into one of the options, you start by getting clear about what you actually want.

Then you work backwards:

• What kind of career could support that life?

• What kind of work fits my values?

• Where could my existing skills be useful?

• Would that mean finding a better job?

• Working independently?

• Building my own business?

There isn’t one right answer.

The point is that you get to decide. You’re no longer a victim of whatever happens to be available on the job market. You’re making conscious choices about what you’re building.

This is where career change gets interesting

You don’t have to know the answer immediately.

In fact, most people don’t.

And very few people take the time to really ask themselves these questions.

Building a business in Bitcoin is not easy! Our service providers, our customers, and our team noticed this especially over the past two weeks since MiCA took effect in Europe.

Strike may be losing us as a customer (through no fault of their own), and for us, every new member started with a payment error to troubleshoot over the past couple of weeks - not the best way to make a good first impression and build a good relationship.

If you’ve glanced at the headline numbers, you might think the Bitcoin job market slowed down in Q2.

Maybe it did. But the numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Some companies genuinely posted fewer roles this quarter. At the same time, we have been upgrading our job scraper, which meant we missed a few openings from companies we know were hiring. Rather than pretending these numbers are more precise than they are, we’d rather be transparent about what they represent.

So while the numbers may not include every opening, we still decided to publish our quarterly report because it highlights the broader trends in the Bitcoin job market.

We are investing heavily in improving our data, which will give us a much clearer picture of the Bitcoin job market. We’re looking forward to sharing that with you in our Q3 report.

How many Bitcoin Jobs were there in Q2 of 2026?

346 jobs across 66 companies.

🟠 143 Bitcoin-only - that’s 41%.

What Does the Bitcoin Job Market Trend Look Like?

One shape holds regardless of coverage: the first month of a quarter leads, then tapers.

October opened Q4 2025 at 172 and fell to 113 by December; January opened Q1 at 168 and eased to 124; April opened Q2 at 142 and settled to 95.

Who’s Hiring?

66 companies hired this quarter — and here the data is solid.

🟠 41 Bitcoin-only companies posted 143 jobs — about three or four each, no single one dominating. Wide and distributed.

25 Bitcoin-adjacent companies posted 203 jobs, but the top 10 are 92% of them. Target adjacent, and you’re mostly applying to a handful of big employers.

How many Bitcoin jobs are remote?

Nothing new or special this quarter — 43% remote, 57% on-site or hybrid.

Remote is where the productive work happens. But real connection is face to face. Do you agree?

What Level of Talent Are Bitcoin Companies Hiring?

Mid-level leads, with senior and manager close behind — plus a healthy stack of founders and leadership.

The message is clear: Bitcoin companies would rather hire someone who already owns their craft than someone they have to hand-hold.

Employers have a hundred words for it — leadership, initiative, accountability, adaptability — but it’s one trait: agency. We pulled it apart across 1,003 job ads in The Hidden Skill Behind Most Bitcoin Job Listings.

The short version: your resume isn’t proof of agency — a public track record is.

Final thoughts

Bear markets are building markets. The price cools, the tourists leave, and the builders put their heads down and ship. That’s true for Bitcoin companies — and it’s true for us.

But building in 2026 comes with a new catch: in the AI age, the hard part isn’t finding information, it’s knowing what’s actually true. Signal is scarce, and worth more than ever.

As part of that research, we looked beyond technical requirements to understand what employers were actually looking for in the people they hire.

We studied Bitcoin job ads that explicitly mentioned behavioural requirements and categorized the soft skills they contained.

The five most common categories were:

At first glance, these findings seem a little odd.

Why would leadership be the most requested skill when many of these roles aren’t management positions?

Because in startup environments, leadership often doesn’t mean managing people. It means taking ownership, showing initiative, and moving work forward without waiting for instructions.

They want people who have the ability to see a problem, take responsibility, and act without being told what to do. People they can trust to figure things out.

Bitcoin Startups Don’t Want Passengers

Many Bitcoin companies are still relatively small teams.

There are fewer layers of management. Less bureaucracy. Less hand-holding.

Often there isn’t a dedicated HR department, training team, or elaborate onboarding process.

As a result, employers are looking for people who can take ownership, make decisions, communicate effectively, and move projects forward without constant supervision.

They want contributors, not passengers.

When employers write words like:

• leadership

• accountability

• ownership

• initiative

• strategic thinking

• adaptability

• problem solving

They’re often describing different aspects of the same underlying trait.

Agency.

The Fiat Career Trap

This creates an interesting challenge for many aspiring Bitcoin professionals.

A lot of Bitcoiners want to leave traditional careers and work in the Bitcoin industry instead.

Ironically, many traditional workplaces train people to do the exact opposite of what Bitcoin startups need.

Large organisations often reward:

• following established processes

• staying within your job description

• avoiding risk

• waiting for approval

Bitcoin startups often reward:

• experimentation

• self-direction

• learning quickly

• taking responsibility

• solving problems before being asked

This is one reason why some candidates with impressive resumes struggle to break into Bitcoin.

Meanwhile, others with less experience get hired because they’ve demonstrated initiative.

Your Resume Is Not Proof of Agency

If there’s one takeaway from this research, it’s this:

Don’t just tell Bitcoin employers what you can do. Show them.

Anyone can claim to be adaptable.

Anyone can say they are a strong communicator.

Anyone can write “leadership skills” on LinkedIn.

The candidates who stand out provide evidence.

They take initiative and simply start contributing. And they create a public track record of their involvement. This could be:

• Writing about Bitcoin

• Running a meetup

• Building a side project

• Contributing to open-source projects

• Creating educational content

• Solving real problems in the community

This is proof of work.

And Bitcoiners tend to respect proof of work more than credentials.

The Good News

The encouraging part is that agency can be developed.

You don’t need permission.

You don’t need a prestigious title.

You can start demonstrating initiative today.

Show up consistently and eventually, opportunities will find you.

What Bitcoin Employers Are Really Saying

When we zoom out, the message from 1,003 Bitcoin job ads is simple:

Bitcoin companies are not looking for perfect candidates.

They’re looking for people they can trust to figure things out.

In an industry built around self-sovereignty, that makes perfect sense. The Bitcoiners who get hired are the ones who start building proof of work long before they get their first Bitcoin job.

We debate inflation, monetary policy, debt, incentives, capital allocation, and time preference. We think deeply about how money works, why Bitcoin matters, and how a better monetary system might shape the future.

But how much time do we spend understanding our own finances?

If we’re serious about building a better money, we should probably master money in our own lives as well.

Freedom Money vs. Freedom Funds

Bitcoiners refer to bitcoin as “freedom money”: a money that is politically neutral, permissionless, and beyond the control of any single government or institution.

But owning freedom money does not automatically make us financially free.

That’s our responsibility.

We need to use that freedom money (and other assets, even fiat) to create a personal “Freedom Fund”: a pool of savings and investments that buys us time. Time is as scarce as bitcoin and we can’t create more of it. The goal is to be in a financial position to make the most of the time we have.

Time to think.

Time to experiment and build.

Time to be “retired” for a while (why should we wait for retirement until we’re old?).

A Freedom Fund is a stash of money that allows you to make decisions from conviction and peace of mind, instead of fear and desperation.

It gives you the freedom to say:

• “No, that’s not the right role for me.”

• “No, that project doesn’t align with my values.”

• “No, I’m not ready to go back to a fiat job yet. I want to see if my bootstrapped startup takes off first.”

Know Your Number

Most people think financial freedom comes from making more money. That’s certainly a part of it, but if you spend more as you earn more, it’s not enough.

You build freedom by understanding your finances, managing risk, and optimizing your savings for growth. You do it by keeping low time preference, staying humble and stacking sats. When it comes to financial prosperity, you never say things like “Oh, that’s tomorrow me’s problem”. Instead you make sure that Tomorrow You will be proud of and grateful for Yesterday You.

One of the most useful concepts we can borrow from the startup world is runway.

If your income disappeared tomorrow, would you be able to pay your rent next month?

What about three months from now? Six months? A year?

The number of months you can keep up your current standard of living without additional income is your runway.

Every founder knows that number.

Every CFO knows that number.

You should too.

Because runway creates options.

And options create freedom.

Become the CFO of Your Life

You may know your monthly income, if you currently have a job with a salary.

Make sure you know your monthly expenses too. Some are fixed, some are variable.

Track your cash flow.

It’s not hard. There are tons of tools online, and plenty of AI tools at your disposal to build you a custom one.

A good CFO understands where money is coming from, where it’s going, and how to allocate it effectively. Why should our personal lives be any different?

I know my runway. I know what I spend. I know how long I can continue building Bitvocation before I need additional income. And when circumstances change, I adjust accordingly.

Sometimes that means reducing expenses.

Sometimes that means finding additional income.

Sometimes it means learning about financial opportunities I previously ignored because they felt “too fiat.”

Whatever extends runway.

Whatever buys more time.

In a recent article I shared that many Bitcoiners feel a bit ashamed when they’re in a situation where they have to go back to a fiat job. While this is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, since it is one strategy to build your freedom fund - the sooner you start building that fund, the higher the chances that you can say No to a fiat job a little longer.

Financial Sovereignty Requires Personal Responsibility

We talk a lot about sovereignty, but sovereignty is difficult without financial resilience.

You do not become more sovereign by ignoring your finances.

You become more sovereign by understanding them.

Know your numbers.

Make decisions today that create more options tomorrow.

Use your freedom money to build a Freedom Fund that allows you to stay aligned with your values without ever having to compromise them.

Create the freedom to say No.

One of our POW Lab members recently shared their career priorities:

1. Full-time Bitcoin job

2. Part-time fiat job plus Bitcoin advisory or freelance work

3. Full-time fiat job - but only if it’s highly aligned and very well paid

Reading that list, I found myself nodding along.

Most Bitcoiners I know have some version of the same goal. They want their work and their values to align. They want to spend their time building, teaching, supporting, or contributing to the future they believe in.

But there is a reality we don’t talk about often enough.

While many people want to work in Bitcoin, the harsh truth is that you often have to be able to afford to work in Bitcoin first.

A huge amount of Bitcoin contribution is financially subsidized by the contributors themselves:

People organize meetups for free. They create educational content for free. They travel to conferences and speak there for free. Some even contribute skills, labor, design work, testing, or operational support to Bitcoin projects without financial compensation.

We are running Bitvocation for free. The little money we make doesn’t even cover costs.

A lot of the work in Bitcoin is fueled by passion - and by income that comes from somewhere else. Sometimes that income comes from mining fiat.

That’s the reality. And I think we need to talk about it more honestly.

There can be a strange sense of shame in Bitcoin circles around fiat work. As if taking a fiat job means you’ve failed. As if earning money through traditional systems somehow weakens your conviction or makes you less serious about Bitcoin. As if every hour spent outside Bitcoin is somehow time wasted.

I know it can feel that way. And of course many of us aspire to spend 100% of our energy on Bitcoin. But we all still live in the fiat world.

Landlords want fiat. Taxes are paid in fiat. Groceries are still purchased through fiat rails. Most of us still earn at least some of our income through fiat systems.

Let’s not pretend otherwise.

Bitcoiners talk a lot about freedom, but freedom requires sustainability. Especially in a volatile and still very early industry. If you cannot sustain yourself financially, emotionally, or physically, you will lose the ability to contribute at all. To Bitcoin adoption. To your family. To your own future.

There is no shame in earning fiat income if that income extends your runway and allows you to continue building the world you actually want to live in.

In fact, that may be the most strategic thing you can do.

Too many people think the choice is binary: either you work in Bitcoin or you sell out and work in fiat. Reality is much messier than that.

Sometimes the highest-leverage move is taking a well-paid fiat role that funds your sovereignty, protects your savings, reduces your stress, and buys you another few years to keep building and stacking sats.

• A good fiat job can fund your Bitcoin education.

• A good fiat job can fund your startup.

• A good fiat job can fund your contribution to open-source projects.

• A good fiat job can give you the breathing room to be patient instead of desperate.

We should not reject useful tools simply because they originate from the existing system.

Most of us still collect energy through fiat rails. Salaries. Clients. Businesses. Investments. Until hyperbitcoinization arrives, the goal is not purity, but sustainability.

You do not need to prove your conviction by rejecting fiat opportunities.

If a good fiat job helps you support your family, stack sats, reduce stress, and continue contributing to Bitcoin for years to come, that is not failure. That’s strategy.

The more runway you have, the longer you can contribute.

And the longer Bitcoiners can contribute, the sooner we’ll build the world we’re trying to create.

I was discussing this with one of our POW Lab members.

She is highly competent, deeply aligned with Bitcoin, and exactly the kind of thoughtful, reliable, high-signal person many startups say they want.

But she had read a job description that made her hesitate. She said it sounded “insane.” Almost like the company needed someone to parachute into chaos, carry the entire operation alone, and never ask for support.

I had to read the job description three times. Three times before I could read in between the lines that this could actually be a really enjoyable job, plus a strong fit for her.

So we did a simple exercise. We asked ChatGPT to translate the job description into more balanced language.

Same role. Same standards. Same level of responsibility. Just in a language that resonated better with us.

It completely changed her perspective.

It went from:

“I don’t know if I’m the kind of person they want.”

To:

“Actually, I could do this.”

The job did not become easier. It became clearer.

The hidden filter

Did you know there’s such a thing as “gendered language” in job descriptions?

No, it’s not a new “woke” term. It’s a practical observation.

Some words and phrases tend to carry masculine-coded signals, and some carry feminine-coded signals. It’s understandable - men and women communicate differently, and if the job description is written (or prompted) by a man, it will sound in a way that resonates and makes sense to him. Unless he makes a conscious effort to neutralize the language.

For example, startup job descriptions often use words like:

• Dominate

• Crush

• Rockstar

• Relentless

• Own this end-to-end

• No hand-holding

• High-pressure environment

• Aggressive growth

And they may include phrases like:

• “You thrive under pressure.”

• “You bring a high level of autonomy and accountability.”

• “You execute, not just plan.”

None of this is wrong. But when the entire job description is written in this register, it can unintentionally filter out some high-agency candidates.

Especially women, who may not recognize themselves in the role.

What hiring managers can do

If you write Bitcoin job descriptions, you can of course use this as an intentional filter. If you want to attract only a certain type of person, lean into the language that you believe resonates with them.

But if you want to attract a wider range of high-agency talent, including women, you may need to neutralize the language a bit.

Run the job description through an LLM and ask it to analyze for masculine vs. feminine-coded language. Then rewrite in a more neutral, balanced tone while staying honest and direct.

What women can do

If you are a woman in Bitcoin - or anyone reading a job description with some initial hesitation - translate it! Read it in a language that resonates more with you. Not to fool yourself, but to see the role clearly before rejecting yourself.

Because sometimes the door is more open than the wording makes it sound.

Be intentional about job descriptions

Bitcoin needs builders. It needs people who can write, sell, teach, design, code, support customers, grow communities, manage operations, build partnerships, run events, tell better stories, and make hard things understandable.

It needs ownership. It needs resilience. It needs calm execution in uncertain environments.

Those strengths are not male or female. They are human. They are Bitcoin.

But people arrive at them through different paths, and they may recognize opportunity through different language.

So if you are a hiring manager, be intentional about how you write job descriptions: use or reduce the language filters consciously.

Business Cards at Bitcoin conferences - Yes or No?

We recently discussed this question in the POW Lab. Because in 2026, with phones always in hand, it’s fair to ask:

Do physical business cards still make sense?

The short answer is yes. But only if they’re done right. Otherwise, they’re expensive little rectangles that end up buried at the bottom of a goodie bag… or quietly thrown away before the event is even over.

Why Most Cards Fail at Bitcoin Events

A generic card with just your name, an obscure company title, and a phone number gets about two seconds of attention. In a room of 10,000+ Bitcoiners scanning for signal, people make fast yes/no decisions: “Is this person relevant to me right now?”

If the card doesn’t immediately answer that, it’s game over. Elegant designs that look expensive can still fall flat if they leave people thinking, “Cool card… but what do you actually do?”

The game has changed. Pure paper is fading; hybrid is winning.

When “Yes” Makes Sense

There are two main scenarios where cards still deliver value:

1. Mass distribution / swag mode
   You’re leaving stacks at booths or tables. Your only goal is to get scanned. The card needs a crystal-clear hook, an easy-to-scan QR code, and a very obvious next step. Simplicity wins.
   

2. Personal hand-off mode
   You’ve just had a real conversation. Now the card becomes a memory anchor. It should include your photo and leave space on the back for a quick handwritten note (“Great chat about mining in Ethopia - let’s continue on Nostr”), and still include that big QR. It turns a fleeting chat into something tangible.
   
   And honestly, that’s what most people are looking for at conferences anyway. Not more contacts, but real connections.

If you’re designing business cards for Bitcoin events this year, treat them less like corporate stationery and more like a tiny sales letter.

Before you print anything, ask yourself:

• Does this immediately tell people why I’m relevant to them?

• Is my value proposition obvious immediately?

• Can they connect with me in under three seconds?

In Bitcoin clarity and utility beat fancy design every time.

The Practical Reality

Many of the best connections at conferences now happen phone-to-phone: add on Nostr, snap a quick selfie, and send a note while the conversation is fresh. A well-designed card complements that flow - it doesn’t replace it.

Bottom line: Bring business cards to Bitcoin conferences if they hook fast, connect instantly, and feel native to the space. If they’re vague or friction-heavy, skip them and just use your phone.

Your card isn’t about looking professional. It’s about making the other person think: “I want to stay in touch with this person.”
